BATIK
About Batik
Batik originated in Indonesia and the word means 'Dot" In Asia wax is the most common resist used but in Africa a flour mix is used.
I lived in Cambodia for 10 years and would holiday in Malaysia where I participated in batik and Shibori workshops. My batiks are inspired by Cambodia and the North Devon/Cornwall wildlife and scenery. My husband is a keen wildlife photographer and I use his photos as reference points.
My batiks are produced on very fine cotton and using hot bees wax I blocked out an area then a dye is applied on top; the parts covered in wax resist remain the original colour. This process of waxing and dyeing is repeated many times to create more elaborate and colourful designs. After the final dyeing the wax is removed and the picture is ready for mounting. In addition to my original batiks Giclee editions are available. Giclee is a fine art print created by using a specialised high resolution inkjet printer apart with their extremely high level of quality and longevity
