It’s the first weekend of the new year and the papers are full of new exercise routines, what to eat, how to lose weight and 100s of ways to make us better, healthier and richer. Most years my resolution is to stop biting my nails – never happens, do more Tai Chi – happens for a while, why do I lack staying power !!! When living in Cambodia we celebrated 3 new years:- international, Chinese and Khmer New Year – 3 chances to start a new or 3 attempts of not sticking to that resolution !
I believe in making my own destiny, not saying luck doesn’t come into it but it’s about recognising when opportunities arise and acting on them. This all takes confidence and I’m a slow learner so its only been over the past 10 + yrs I’ve had the courage to act on opportunities and during that time it was mainly for the benefit of the charity Grace House Community Centre. It is now, having stepped back from the day to day running of the project that I give myself permission to take chances, grab opportunities and explore my creativity.
Just before Christmas the other half and I run a stall at Stroud Farmers Christmas Market http://fresh-n-local.co.uk/trader/stroud/ attempting to sell products made by the mothers at Grace House, I threw in a few cards and art pieces I had created and was delighted to sell these. Huge boast to my confidence so today I’m busy dying material and silk scarves ready for the next market.
This year is going to be about my journey to develop creatively , stand proud in my ability and share my skills.
